Adefence Signal
Adefence realigns the signals sent to advertising platforms with real business outcomes, improving how algorithms allocate budget.
Raw conversions can mislead bidding
Returns, cancellations, unqualified leads, and low margins often remain outside the signals sent to advertising platforms. Algorithms then optimize for apparent conversions, not real results.

Signal engineering helps campaigns optimize for the actual value generated after conversion, not just the number of conversions recorded.
Learn moreFrom the first event to value correction
Adefence connects conversions, advertising clicks, and first-party data. When your internal systems report a new outcome, the conversion is reassessed and translated into an updated signal for advertising platforms.

Questions and answers
FAQ sectionWhat is Adefence's Signal Engineering?
Signal Engineering is the Adefence feature that improves the quality of signals your campaigns send to Google Ads and other advertising platforms. Instead of merely protecting your budget from invalid traffic, this component works on conversions: it compares them with what actually happens after the click (a completed sale, a lead that becomes a customer, a return, a cancellation) and gives platforms a signal closer to the real value generated for your business. The Smart Bidding algorithm then learns not only from conversion volume, but also from conversion quality.
Why can raw conversions mislead bidding?
When you record a conversion, Google Ads already treats it as a positive signal, even if that conversion is still provisional (for example, a newly placed order or a newly received lead). But not all conversions have the same value: some become returns, reversals, cancellations, or refunds, while others remain leads with no real commercial interest. If the algorithm keeps optimizing on these raw data, it may spend budget looking for more of the same conversions, even when you are actually attracting unprofitable orders or low-quality contacts.
How does Adefence realign bidding with real value?
Adefence connects each conversion to the real outcome it produces in your funnel: actual margin, returns, and cancellations for ecommerce; lead qualification and CRM outcomes for lead generation; activation and paid plans for SaaS. When the real outcome is available, the system updates the value of the conversion already sent to Google Ads or other platforms, so the Smart Bidding algorithm learns to distinguish conversions that produced genuine value from those that ultimately did not.
What is conversion value adjustment?
This is the mechanism by which Adefence adjusts the value of an already recorded conversion after you know its real outcome. For example, an ecommerce order is tracked at a certain value but is later returned, and Adefence sends a correction that reduces (or sets to zero) that value in the eyes of the advertising platform. The same applies to a lead that turns out to be spam or a subscription canceled during its trial. This prevents the algorithm from continuing to learn from a signal that has since proved wrong.
Does Signal Engineering work with Google Ads Smart Bidding?
Yes. It is specifically designed for campaigns based on Smart Bidding, including Performance Max, Search, and Shopping, because these algorithms automatically optimize according to the conversion signals they receive. The cleaner and more current these signals are, the better the algorithm can direct budget toward users and results that create real value for your business.
Do I need to change my campaigns or site to use Signal Engineering?
No. Once your business systems (CRM, ecommerce, management software) are connected to Adefence, the platform automatically collects real outcomes and sends value updates to advertising platforms. You do not have to change campaigns manually: the bidding algorithm receives better signals and adapts budget allocation on its own.
What is the difference between IVT Protection and Signal Engineering?
IVT Protection acts before and during the click: it analyzes incoming traffic to block bots, click fraud, and invalid sources so they do not consume budget. Signal Engineering acts after conversion: it qualifies real outcomes and corrects the value signals sent to advertising platforms. The two features work together: one protects budget from traffic that should not convert at all; the other ensures that counted conversions reflect the true value created for the business.
